Just a couple of weeks ago, Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 4X surfaced online, and now the Redmi Note 5 has also been certified by the US FCC. The certification reveals some crucial specifications and features of the upcoming smartphone. One of the leaks also hint at the expected pricing, with the unveiling event rumored to take place sometime before the end of this month.
We haven’t come across any leaked photos or renders of the device, so it is unclear about the design changes that we are likely to see. However, based on the specifications revealed by the FCC certification (spotted by TheLeaker), the Redmi Note 5 is set to get some minor upgrades in terms of a better chipset, more RAM and more storage. The Redmi Note 5 is expected to run on Android 7.0 Nougat OS-based MIUI 9 out-of-the-box.
According to the certification, the smartphone could flaunt a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080p) display. At the heart of smartphone will either be Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon 652 octa-core SoC (four Cortex A53 cores + four Cortex A72 cores) or MediaTek’s 64-bit Helio X25 deca-core SoC (eight Cortex A53 cores + two Cortex A72 cores). Going by history, India is likely to get the Snapdragon variant, whereas the MediaTek variant could be sold in China and other Asian countries. The Redmi Note 5 is also likely to feature 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB onboard storage.
In the photography department, a 16-megapixel rear snapper and an 8-megapixel selfie snapper is likely to be in tow. To keep things ticking, the smartphone could be fuelled by a 4,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support. With connectivity options such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11n and GPS, and USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer is expected. Based on the rumors, the Redmi Note 5 prices could start from $191.
