Xiaomi-backed Yi 4K+ action camera to launch at CES 2017

Imagine capturing 4K shots at a speed of 60 frames per second! And now imagine that coming true, because it is. Xiaomi-backed GoPro competitor Yi Technology has just announced that it will reveal a new action camera at CES 2017 that can shoot 4K video at 60 frames per second. Up until now, the best cameras up in the market are only able to shoot in UHD footage at 15-30 frames per second, which in turn forces users to step down to 2.7K resolutions for a smoother experience. So basically, the new camera by Yi will be able to capture 4K videos, at double the speed the existing cameras can.

Called the Yi 4K+, the camera is the successor of the Yi 4K, and on the hardware level it is expected to be almost similar to the latter. The Yi 4K features a 2.19-inch LCD touchscreen with 640 x 360 high resolution, designed with Gorilla Glass Retina to resist scratches. Additionally, it comes with two hours of battery life and the ability to stream video over WiFi. The Yi 4K sports a 12-megapixel Sony sensor that delivers 4K video at 30 frames per second and has wide-angle lens with F2.8 aperture for photos. It also packs dual microphones, 5GHz Wi-Fi connectivity and electronic stabilization. It was priced at $250, which is about Rs 17,000.

Along with the action camera, the company shared additional details on the Erida drone. The drone is expected to be the fastest three-rotor drone on the market with speeds of up to 75 mph, the company says. Along with the quick speeds, the initial tests allowed the drone to fly for up to 40 minutes. Yi says it will be flying the tricopter Erida for the first time in the US during the CES 2017.
