Xiaomi Mi Note, Mi 4c, Mi 4s, Mi Max to get Android 7.0 Nougat update soon

It’s been over four months since Google released the Android 7.0 Nougat update for its Nexus devices, and other manufacturers have slowly started pushing the update to their smartphones as well. While Xiaomi has been lagging behind its competitors, a company official has now delivered some promising news regarding the Android 7.0 Nougat update.

Spotted by GizmoChina on Weibo, the company’s MIUI operations manager mentioned that beta testing of the software is underway. Surprisingly, the Xiaomi Mi 4c, Mi 4s, Mi Note and Mi Max will be the first smartphones to receive the Android Nougat update in the coming weeks. However, there is no word on other devices such as the Mi 5, the Mi 5s, the Mi 5s Plus, the recently launched Mi MIX concept phone and Mi Note 2.

Also, the highly popular Redmi Note 3 isn’t a part of the list yet. A post on MIUI forums had also hinted that the Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi 3, Redmi 3S, Redmi 3A will be updated to the latest version. Now, while the official mentioned about the devices, he did not reveal any fixed timeframe for the rollout. A couple of months ago, we came across leaked screenshot of what appears to be the MIUI 9 interface carrying version number 6.9.23. The update is set to bring Android 7.0 Nougat features multi-window feature to run two apps side-by-side, inline notification feature to reply to text messages right and instant messages from notification panel. The feature also works on other apps such as Telegram Messenger, Hike Messenger and WhatsApp among others.
