At the Consumer Electronics Show 2017 today, Xiaomi unveiled a new wireless networking device called the Mi Router HD. As the name suggests, it’s a Wi-Fi router, but it’s not just any Wi-Fi router. This is an advanced product that’s going to cost a couple of hundred dollars and is really meant for those who want to get the best possible wireless networking experiences for all their personal as well as their connected devices. Xiaomi is hoping that those users will pick the Mi Router HD for precisely that reason.
The Mi Router HD is a 4×4 multi-user MIMO router that supports up to 2600Mbps transfer speeds via four high-gain PCB antennae. The router comes with a built-in surveillance-class hard drive that can be configured with up to 8 terabytes of storage. Yes, that’s 8TB. All of this is packing in an aluminum alloy housing. Aside from being a global class wireless router, the Mi Router HD offers several smart features including automatic backups from all devices at home and even supports Time Machine.
It’s also capable of automatically syncing with a user’s Dropbox folder so they have a copy of that at home. It can integrate with Sonos audio system as well. Xiaomi will roll out more features for the router down the road. The Mi Router HD will be released in China later in Q1 2017 in two versions with 1TB and 8TB of storage, they will cost under $200 and under $500 respectively.
